Symptoms Of A Migraine Headache

Migraines are different than headaches. They are much worse and have additional symptoms. Pain, light and sound sensitivity, weakness, dizziness, and vomiting are all common with migraine headaches. Migraines can be caused by stress, or other health condi

A regular headache hurts, yet, but it does leave you incapacitated. A regular headache leaves you maybe in a bad mood, thinking maybe you should take a pain reliever. A migraine makes you unable to function. When migraine symptoms are full blown it can make a person very sick.

The first and most obvious symptom of a migraine headache is the pain. A migraine hurts. There is throbbing in your head that is indescribable. Your temples may pound. It may feel like your head will absolutely explode at any second. Migraine pain tends to move in the head. Sometimes it will feel like it’s behind your eyes. Other times the pain will be in the back of your head and may feel like it is radiating down your neck and into your ears.

Take Tylenol, Advil, or Aleve for the pain if you do not have a migraine medication from your doctor. Use an ice pack to help with the pain. The cold works wonders to get you through until the pain reliever begins to work.

Light sensitivity is another symptom of migraine headaches. With a regular headache your vision is not affected. With a migraine headache you can barely see. When migraine symptoms are full blown and at their worst your vision will be blurry. It will hurt so bad to even see light that your eyes will automatically squint. When this happens lay down in a dark room. Lay on your back, very still, and close your eyes.

Sound sensitivity is another symptom of a migraine headache. All noises around you will seem to become much more noticeable. Loud noises will send shooting pains through your head and make you want to cry. If you have a migraine it is very important to go somewhere quiet until the symptoms begin to recede. If you don’t you may end up in agony. Continuing to be around the noise will intensify your symptoms and could make you sick.

The feeling of being very weak is another symptom of a migraine headache. You may feel like you can not stand up much longer. In this case sit. Dizziness is a common symptom of migraines and people can and do pass out from migraines. This is the body’s way of saying it doesn’t feel good, something is wrong, and that it is in too much pain to bear. Dizziness is nothing to mess around with. Lay down if you feel unstable or weak.

Vomiting is another symptom of a bad migraine headache. If you feel a migraine coming on do not wait to take pain relievers. If you let they symptoms build for too long before taking the pain reliever you may not be able to keep it down. Once vomiting begins with a migraine headache it is hard to stop. Taking pain relievers early on can prevent this symptom. If you do begin vomiting be sure to keep hydrated. Take little sips of ice water, clear soda, or ice tea as you can. Dehydration will make your migraine worse. Use the ice pack and lie down in a cool, dark, quiet room. Be still until you think you can keep pain relievers down then try taking something to relieve your migraine symptoms.
